Blood Drive Exceeds Goal
Sunday afternoon, September 28, was a bright, beautiful, early-fall day that saw scores of First Baptist Church members roll up
their sleeves and give blood. The drive was the second best ever held at the church and netted 164 productive pints of blood. Nearly
200 people participated (several volunteers could not give because of travel to certain foreign countries), with 21 of them giving
"double-red" units. (A "double-red" donation allows a machine to separate the red blood cells from the blood and return the other
components to the doner.) The Red Cross volunteers ran out of material for taking "double reds," or there would have been another
20 volunteers in that category, according to Karen Basham, First Baptist Church staff person who helped organize the day. No one
expected that kind of response for the "double reds," but you can be sure they will be ready next time!
A heartfelt thanks goes to the Red Cross for giving the church members the opportunity to give blood, and, of course, a big "thank
you" goes to those First Baptist Church folks who took the time and effort to give.
Thank you, First Baptist Church!
