The Hammond Baptist junior varsity basketball team won the six-team round robin tournament by defeating Faith Christian of Lafayette,
Indiana, by a score of 51 to 47 in overtime on February 10, 2009. J. J. Aspiras was named to the all-tournament team, and John
Woosley was voted the tournament's most valuable player.
The Hammond Baptist High School varsity basketball team won the 39th Annual Hammond Baptist National Invitational Basketball Tournament
by defeating the talented and undefeated Gospel Light Baptist Lions 43 to 38 in the championship game on February 13, 2009. Going
into the championship game,
Gospel Light had a record of 30 wins and 0 losses. Hammond Baptist had a record of 28 wins and 6 losses.

Hammond Baptist Varsity Team
The Hammond Baptist Swordsmen had four players named to the all-tournament team: Ed Young - honorable mention, Chuckie
Condict - 2nd-team all tourney, Travante Walker - 1st-team all tourney, and Stephen Goodall - most valuable player of the tournament.
Stephen also played five games with a broken hand; he broke his shooting hand in the first game of the tournament. The tournament
field consisted of 16 teams from all over the country. Many of these teams will compete for the state title of the state in which
they reside. This was a good week of basketball and fellowship.
