Right-to-Life Oratory Contest

Winners

Kayla Pfeiffer and Belen Bustos.

Under the leadership of speech coach Mrs. Gail Merhalski, two Hammond Baptist High School senior girls took the top two spots in the Lake County Right-to-Life Oratory Contest held on Saturday, March 14, 2009.

 

Kayla Pfeiffer, daughter of Robin and Chandra Pfeiffer of Merrillville, took first place with her speech entitled "Abortion in America Today." Kayla earned $200 for her effort and the chance to compete in state competition in Indianapolis, Indiana.

 

Belen Bustos, daughter of Mrs. Irene Bustos of Hammond, took second place with her speech entitled "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." Her effort earned her $100 and the trip to Indianapolis to compete.

 

Two other Hammond Baptist seniors competed and finished third and fourth - Becky Pineda and Jenny Hedderman. Mrs. Merhalski also earned $200 for having coached the first-place competitor.
